Day 4 Final Day at UDA!

Day 4 Final Day at UDA! Click Photo for Photo Gallery.

I woke up this morning feeling sad....something I did not think I would feel. I missed my family so much but I realized that the dance team's time together was coming to an end at camp. When I told the girls how I felt they agreed with me. There is no question; we will be doing this every year. There is just something about eating together, sitting together, living together, learning together, and working so hard together that creates such a strong bond with the dancers.

I made them get all packed up before we left for breakfast. We finished rather quickly since we knew we needed more practice on our B and C routines. All girls got their luggage and brought it into my room. They practiced nonstop until it was time to go. They started stretching and marking their dances until it was time for the official warm-up. Parents started coming in to watch their girls. The evaluations started. I was really not nervous at all....but more excited for the parents to see what their daughters had learned....and just to witness the outcome of their hard work and dedication they had put into every moment of every day they were at camp. I guess I felt like a proud Mommy/Coach. All girls nailed their B and C routines....ALL BLUE RIBBONS. Remember, these girls were dancing with all High School dance teams! They also got to perform their A routines for their parents.

Awards followed the evaluations. My Turrentine Middle School Dance Team earned a Superior rating which is calculated by adding all their ribbons they had earned all weekend long and averaging them out. They truly earned this outstanding and well deserved trophy. The staff at UDA had a trophy for "110% Award".....it was voted by the staff and Turrentine Middle Got It!!! Also, my biggest surprise came next....all the dance team coaches voted on another specialty award "Exceptional Coach Award".....and.....the UDA staff called MY NAME!!! I did not believe it at first and the tears in my eyes made it hard for me to focus when I was reading the plaque they presented me. It was such a wave of emotions. I had never been at camp before and they voted for me. When I told the other coaches thank you after the awards they hugged me and said I had great ideas but the reason they voted was because it was so obviously how much I loved my girls......I could not have said it better myself.

After the awards I had a presentation of ribbons for my girls in the dorm. I gave out ribbons for the messiest room (Kathryn D and Tatiana T.), cleanest room (Kathryn M. and Holly H.), most original room (Caroline R. and Haley A.), hardest worker (Holly H.), and two leadership awards (my captains Samantha T. and Caroline K.). We also read our bricks of thoughts about our team that created our team wall. We shared our "Facebook" wall of our team. I watched all the girls leave and thought to myself.....we had a great weekend. I could not ask for a better group of girls. Turrentine is truly blessed to have these girls....and I am blessed to be their coach. Thanks UDA....see you next year!

Love,

Miss Kim
