Creative Movement, Ballet, Tap, Children's DVD, Burlington, NC
It is now 10:00pm and I hope that I can remember everything that has happen today. The girls were sort of dragging this morning.....all this dancing is making them tired. I practiced at 6:30am with my six girls trying out for All American. We left for breakfast at 7:00am and filled our bellies once again. Classes started at 8:00am for the All American and 8:30am for the entire team. They reviewed all their dances and watched a cute "mock" evaluation. They learned what to do and what not to do. We left for lunch and after eating at a leisurely pace (we got their 10 minutes earlier than normal) we headed back to the room to get ready for our slumber party.
Let me tell you.....these girls are so creative.....I laughed so hard at their outfits. Some were cute and normal, some were wild, and some were totally off the hook. I fixed hair....teased it....sprayed it.....and created lots of ponytails. We walked to the gym and received quite a few curious stares. What is so great is that these girls are so into this whole experience they just look, wave, and smile.....or say "yes, we are wonderful". After several Miss Kim photo ops we made it to the gym.....oh.....we had a car parade.....that is when a car comes down the lane and the girls jump to one side of the road and hold their arms up waving and screaming......this makes for very confused but smiley drivers.
They paraded into the gym so proud of their appearance. They had to be the most flamboyant of all the teams. The staff asked them to pose for several pictures.....like.....act like you are watching a scary movie......act like you are singing.......act like you are hiding under the bed......and carry your coach!!! I actually was worried but they did lift me......it took all of them! ? They broke up into three fun groups and learned "fun dances". Lilli and Kathryn M. learned the Boston dance.....Tat, Kathryn D. and Caroline R. learned "Love Machine", while the rest of the team learned the actual "Thriller" dance. They looked incredible.
We then went to technique class and worked on our leaps. Several girls were able to make improvements which are a great thing. While most of the team worked on reviewing the B and C routines the All American audition girls went and changed and I fixed their hair. They all looked so good. They danced two at a time. I think I was just as nervous as they were. I was worried because I wanted this to be a good experience.....not one where they did not feel good enough. I was so proud that they actually got out there and did it. It was very intimidating.....especially because they were first. After they did their audition they got to do their drill downs and guess who earned a ribbon.....Bethani again! She has won them every time. Then came the fun game sort of like Simon says but with lots of different commands. The partner command went wrong today.....seems that Haley's knee made contact with Brittany's left eye. Haley felt so bad and Brittany tried to hold it together.....I hugged her and got ice. She laid her head in my lap after telling me how many fingers I was holding up. Then they received the command where they have to run to a wall before the staff touches them......well.......their are two boys here at this camp and our Lilli was standing next to one of them when they both took off running.....although Lilli is fast......he was faster......knocking right into her.....she flew through the air as my heart stopped and landed like the ballerina she is on her left knee. She got right up and still made it to the wall. That is one strong girl. I looked at her knee and nothing was hurt except for the huge hole in her tights.....uhhh.....Haley's tights! Lilli had borrowed Haley's tights.....so then Brittany smiled this huge smile when Haley looked at her and said.....see.....that is what I get for hurting your eye! I LOVE THESE GIRLS......bad/sad situation into a good/happy situation. Brittany and Lilli are fine....I do wonder if she will wake up with a slightly purple/black eye.....we will see.
Supper was the same routine.....ice cream being the hit always. We did have a lot of fun tonight talking about so many different things. Tatiana is now "Yorkie T" since we were all convinced that she looked just like a cute little Yorkie dog with her hair.....she even barked for the girls. The girls headed back to the room to get ready for evaluations. They all looked so good.....I fixed lots of hair which I loved. We left and had to stop for several photo ops. The girls nailed their dances and had to stand still while the judges walked around a placed a ribbon in their hands.....hidden behind their backs. At the count of three they got to hold up their BLUE ribbons!!! I was so proud of them. They practiced so hard for those ribbons.
After they were awarded their blue ribbons they announced the All American winners. Caroline Rudd, Kathryn Damman, Lilli Canada, and Bethani Reuther all made it. I was super impressed with all of my girls that tried out......what guts they had to get out there all by themselves, in front of all these girls and judges and do what they did.....and they were first.
We walked back to the room and I did not let them take showers. They ate a quick snack and went right into the foyer with two other teams to practice B and C routines. I let girls call moms during teeny tiny breaks but we practiced from 8:30-10:00pm. We will have a small window to rehearse again after breakfast. The girls are cleaning their rooms right now so that they can leave for breakfast in the morning. We do not get to eat until all rooms are clean...point, blank, period. That reminds me, Samantha told me today that I was so mean in the nicest way.....is that a good thing? Tomorrow parents will be here at 9:15 to watch our B and C evaluations at 9:30. I cannot wait to see them perform. I also cannot wait to see the faces of the parents that are coming. Some ballerina parents might be surprised at their daughters who have mastered hip hop technique. Other parents of girls who are new to the team will be amazed at just how good their daughter performs. Each girl is so special in her very own way. I could watch them all day. I cannot wait to see my family but a part of me is sad that this special time is ending for them. Then I realize that it is just the beginning.....we have the entire year. This will be a year of new friends, awesome dances, fun performances, and memories that will last forever. Now.....off to bed we go.....I think I hear silly string!!!!!!!!!!
Love,
Miss Kim
