Day 2 UDA Dance Camp At Wake Forest University! Click Photo for Photo Gallery.
Last night the girls magically went to sleep at 10:30.....before their said 11:00 "lights out" curfew......I just wished that the 2 teams above us would have been that good. I had to turn into the mean mommy and go and tell them to keep it down.....at 11:45pm. The girls woke up right on time and were ready to leave at 6:45 am. We had a wonderful breakfast of eggs, bacon, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, cereal, fruit, and so much more. The girls ate great except for a couple of little birds....Miss Kim had to go and have a talk with them and they went and got a muffin to eat with their grapes....and some juice. I saw one girl drinking Dr. Pepper and Miss Kim had to go and get her some chocolate milk instead.
We walked over to the gym and started the morning out with learning the All American routine. I can have only 6 girls tryout so we will take a vote tonight of the ones that really want to do it. After that the girls went straight into warm-up while I attended a coaches meeting. Me and other coaches shared ideas about everything from discipline to competition. It was so nice to get to talk to other coaches and learning what works for them. The only thing is I am at least 15 years older than all of them! ? Oh well....still love it though. I went back and forth watching the girls review their "A" routines. They started learning their "B" routines after reviewing. I split the girls up again and sent my strong hip hoppers to the level III Hip Hop and my jazz dancers to level I jazz. I took lots of pictures while they were dancing. At one point I looked at Destiny, Lauren, and Caroline Rudd in the front with all the high school dancers.......they were amazing.....there was nothing they could not do......I got these huge tears in my eyes.....I was such a proud Mommy at that very moment. After they finished I ran over to them and hugged them all.....all 8 that learned that dance.
After learning the B routines we headed to lunch. Well....that was the fastest I had seem them run all day. I even had to work to keep up with them walking as fast as they were. They have now established a certain area in the cafeteria for their eating pleasure. The lunch was yummy and the ice cream machine was a hit once again. The girls are amazed at my ice cream formations......I told them I am a Mayberry and TCBY graduate employee.....so now they get me to get their bowls and cones for them.
After lunch we headed back to our room for a quick clean up and rest period.....45 minutes to be exact. As I went to each room to check and make sure that their hair was just right I had to wake up Emily.....she had laid down and went right to sleep. Tatiana got quite comfy in her bed too. All girls were ready to go and we headed back to review "A" and "B" routines. They also had a terribly fun "hip hop standoff" which meant they learned a super cute hip hop routine and split the teams in two. Each half faced the other group and danced in front of them. We had a long practice session to get all of our questions answered about the dances. We hurried to supper and filled our bellies once again. I loved our conversation at the table......sorry moms......BOYS! We laughed and laughed as they blushed and blushed. It was ice cream time again and Bethani looked over and said "Miss Kim...I really wished I could just put my head under and put the ice cream right in my mouth.....well.....that did not happen. Then, as Samantha was sitting in her seat minding her own business this college student/athlete dropped to the floor right in front of her and started doing pushups.....still not sure why he did that but it was the first time I have ever seen Samantha at a loss for words!
After supper we went back to freshen up fro 30 minutes then right back to learn our "C" routine. The girls made a spirit tunnel for all the teams which was so much fun. I had all the girls stay together for this last routine. They learned a level II hip hop routine. They finished it with smiles on all their faces.....exactly what I wanted. Right now the girls are calling their moms, taking showers, practicing, and getting ready for a pizza party. The girls are getting along....along with everyone.....the little groups have become one big group....in one day. Now I know what away camps can do for a team. These girls are growing in so many ways and I am so proud to be their coach.
Love,
Miss Kim
