I started my last day with my two and three year olds. I was overwhelmed with a feeling of sadness since I knew this was our last class but then I felt so happy seeing how far they have come since the first day of class. Mrs. Michaels watched our class for a little while and took some pictures. She was so proud of these children and laughed so hard when they started wiggling (shaking their biscuits) to Mister Sun. We did all our favorites and ended our day with the parachute. I hope that I see each and every one of these children in the fall. We have so much fun in class and I can just imagine all the fun we will have in the future! Did they tell you that I played with them on the playground one day.....I brought my little boy Walker and we played with everybody. I felt like a celebrity.....Miss Kim...Miss Kim...Miss Kim!
Next I rounded up my boys. They were so excited since they knew their parents were coming. We quickly got upstairs and practiced our special showcase for our Mommy's. Then our parents came in the room. It was great finally getting to meet the mommy's of these precious boys. I told all the parents that in Miss Kim's class we can be as wild as we want.....as long as we are safe and do not hurt others. Odd thing was the boys were much calmer than they would normally be with just me. I also told the parents that my goal each class is to learn, have fun, and to make those boys sweat! We did some of our fun songs....especially Bing Bang with jumping jacks, burpee pushups, skips, and chasse'. I told the boys it was time and they quickly got in their spots. I gave them each a flower and they smiled the biggest smile knowing in their hearts and minds that they were about to do something really special to make their Mommy happy. I watched (and took pictures) as each boy skipped to his mother, bowed to her, and presented her with a daisy. I though back for a moment twelve years ago watching my son Jacob skip to me and giving me a flower. These boys not only made their mommy's proud but they made me so proud too. That took this so seriously and wanted it to be special for their Mommy. One little boy came up to me after the class and gave me a big hug; he then said "Miss Kim, my Mommy had happy tears!" I knew it was a great moment.
Next the parents of my older tap and ballet girls filled the seats. We walked in like little professionals and got into our circle. We did the Hokey Pokey and reviewed all our tap steps. Then we had to babysit baby Annabelle. She drank her milk, burped, and went to sleep with her passy and her blankie. We tried on our high heeled shoes and rocked the baby, rocked the baby, and rocked the baby. One of my little girls earned a Miss Kim hug, Miss Kim twirl, and Miss Kim dip for telling me the name of that step....ball change! They danced their tap dance to Shake Your Groove Thing showing their newly learned tap steps. It was time for our special showcase in ballet. I gave each girl her flower and then knew exactly what to do. Each girl ballet walked to their Mommy, did a bourre' turn and ended with a curtsy. We finished with a little ballet dance. This class did amazing things in such a short period of time. We learned so many tap and ballet steps as well as realizing how much fun dancing really can be. Good luck to all my dancers who are heading off to kindergarten and to the rest....I will see you in the fall.
Parents, we made a very special memory today. Our kids just will not stop growing up no matter how hard we try to make them stop. Before you know it they are in high school and although that is also a special time, it is just different. These are the most important years of their lives, a time when their personality is being shaped. Cherish every moment and make that moment count. Praise them, give them clear guidelines, and remind them to be the best that they can be.
Thank you for sharing your child with me, I have truly enjoyed every moment I have had with them. They have learned a lot but most of all they have smiled, giggled, and had fun moving and grooving!
