Creative Movement, Ballet, Tap, Children's DVD, Burlington, NC
 Gabe and Lauren
I have enjoyed my first three weeks of teaching creative movement and dance at First Pres CDC. Thanks to Mrs. Nikki Michaels for giving me this opportunity to bring my program to this wonderful facility.
I start the day with creative movement with "my boys" and let me tell you they are ready. Last week it was raining and I told them that I was going to make them tired. Most of the boys can skip already which is pretty impressive given their ages. They boys love going on the bear hunt and pretending to be pirates. You should see them dance around to the "Pirate Song" from Lazy Town.....really cute. They all have great attention spans.....give me a class of all boys any day!
Next come my sweet little 2 and 3 year olds for creative movement. They all seem to know me by now. When I walk in the building I can hear them saying "Miss Tim....Miss Tim". We sing "Wheels on the Bus", "If You Are Happy and You Know It", and "Barney Car". They really love when I do the frying pan and we pop like popcorn (first step in learning to skip). Listening skills and attention spans are still being developed at this age so it is not the end of the world if everyone is not in line or in our circle....they still hear me talking or the music playing. My little shy ones are really doing well now which is so heart warming. This class's favorite thing is the parachute so we save that until last. It is such a sweet sight watching this class sing and move together.
Last I have my older girls for tap and ballet. I could teach this class for two hours and not get bored. The different personalities are quite unique but they all share one thing in common......they all are little sponges waiting for me to show them the next step. We have already learned more steps in three weeks than I normally teach in 6 weeks. We know toe taps, heel outs, toe backs, boogie, burpy, and that is just tap. In ballet we know first position, second position, plie', tendu', releve', bourre' turn, curtsy, and jete'. They may not be able to recite these yet but if I tell the imaginary story that I use to teach it to them they will immediately get into the step. These girls are really good and they all love to dance.
Wonder what tomorrow will bring?
